Backstory

The Jaeger family has a long line of agricultural wealth within Mercer and Roxwood Counties, New Malverne dating back to the 1800s when the family settled from Germany.

Jacob Jaeger was born in El Reno, New Malverne on September 1, 1989, the oldest of three children. Shortly after birth, his parents, Jason and Amber Jaeger relocated to Alpine Beach.

Jacob attended school in Roxwood County, where he graduated from Roxwood County High School in 2006. During school, Jacob played football as a quarterback. Jacob’s father had been preparing Jacob to take over the family business, however, Jacob’s interest always leaned toward the military.

Jacob was accepted to the United States Military Academy West Point during his senior year of high school, against his parent's wishes.

Jacob studied Public Administration while in school and quickly became one of the Commandant’s favorites, always stepping up and going beyond when needed. This attention allowed Jacob to attend the United States Army Ranger School in Fort Benning, GA, before graduation. Seizing the opportunity, Jacob attended and passed Ranger School. Jacob would go on to graduate in 2010.

After graduation, Jacob was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Jacob was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC in the 82nd Airborne Division. Jacob was assigned as a Platoon Leader for his first assignment. During this time, Jacob attended the United States Army Airborne School.

In 2011, Jacob was sent on his first deployment to Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Jacob’s Platoon was the go-to element by his Commander. While on patrol in what was supposed to be a controlled valley, Jacob’s Platoon was violently ambushed. In the initial attack, Jacob’s senior advisor, Sergeant First Class Michael Smith was fatally wounded. Jacob led his Platoon on a successful counter-offensive, in a 3:1 incident which would later earn him a Bronze Star. Jacob was subsequently promoted to First Lieutenant as well. Jacob’s unit would return to Fort Bragg in 2012.

Jacob was reassigned to the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, NY as a Company Executive Officer. In 2013, Jacob was deployed for a second time to Afghanistan. Early in the deployment, the Company Commander was wounded in action. Jacob was reassigned as the acting Company Commander for the duration of the deployment. While conducting a nighttime raid near the end of the deployment, Jacob’s unit stumbled into an ambush due to an intelligence error. The unit would come under heavy fire from three machine gun bunkers. Jacob, fearing for the safety of his men, knew a sacrifice would need to be made. Without worrying about personal injury, Jacob led a squad on an assault of the first bunker under severe enemy fire. Only Jacob and three others survived the initial push. A Soldier under Jacob’s command destroyed the first bunker with a grenade. Jacob then left the other 3 Soldiers to tend to the wounded, charged the second bunker, and when doing so, was shot twice. Jacob destroyed the second bunker with a grenade before dashing to the final bunker. At the final bunker, insurgents recognized what Jacob was doing and exited the bunker. Jacob was hit again but successfully eliminated the combatants. Jacob’s actions saved the lives of countless Soldiers within one of his Platoons. Jacob would be medically transported out of the country. For his actions, Jacob received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Jacob would undergo rehabilitation until late 2014. Jacob would then be promoted to the rank of Captain.

Jacob would then return to active service and be reassigned to the 101st Airborne Division. Jacob would attend the United States Army Air Assault School and be assigned as a Company Commander. In 2017, Jacob was promoted to the rank of Major and assigned as a Battalion Executive Officer.

In 2018, Jacob left active duty service and transitioned into the New Malverne National Guard. Jacob would be assigned as the acting Battalion Commander of his current unit.

Jacob would move into a new career, applying to the New Malverne Department of Public Safety (NMDPS) - State Patrol Division as a Trooper. Jacob completed BLET and Trooper School before being assigned to a Post in Roxwood County. Jacob served as a standard bearer and would receive a promotion to Trooper First Class within his first 6 months.

In 2020, Jacob tried out for the NMDPS State Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU), where he was accepted and attended K9 Handler School. In 2021, Jacob was promoted to Sergeant, where he led the CIU and began teaching new K9 Handlers, statewide. In 2022, Jacob was promoted to Lieutenant over the Special Operations Division in his region.

In January 2024, Jacob was promoted to the rank of Captain and transferred to Troop A…
